You have three choices when facing any hardship in life:

let it destroy you

let it define you

let it develop you

Often times in life, the easiest option is not the best option. Holding onto resentment, hurt, or anger may seem natural and inevitable, but it is far more destructive than making the choice to move forward. If you do nothing else for yourself, learn to forgive. It is quite possibly the most constructive thing a person can do in order to become who they want to become. In some ways, making peace with a situation is actually a selfish notion. Letting go of the anger caused by those who have hurt us allows us to live up to our potential, and spend our thoughts and energy on something beneficial to our psyches.. rather than over analyzing and harboring bitterness. Otherwise, we let hardship become us, and that becomes more toxic than the initial sting ever was.

“Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.”

  1. Shelby, this is beautiful. I’m honored to share your post for #ForgivingFridays. It’s so true – forgiveness is first and foremost a gift to ourselves, so that we can become free of the judgment that we place and move forward. I love what you wrote about spending time on things that are beneficial and seeing the world as a beautiful place. Lots of blessings, Shelby! ~Debbie
